In Canada, all radio apparatus, interference-causing equipment and terminal equipment – basically, all wireless devices – must be certified by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (formerly Industry Canada). Under the certification process, Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada verifies that the equipment meets Industry Canada’s technical regulations. Foreign companies applying for wireless certification by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada must include on their applications a Canadian Representative.
The role of the Canadian Representative is essentially to be a convenient contact for Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada in the event that, for some reason, the foreign company applicant’s internal contact is unavailable or difficult to reach due to time zone differences or other reasons.
Finding a Canadian Representative, registered for this purpose with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, for their wireless applications is often a challenge for foreign companies. Just yesterday we had a call from a San Francisco based software app company desperate to find a Canadian Representative. They had already approached and been rejected by their Canadian distributor and had turned to searching the internet for a Canadian Representative. To the great relief of the company representative, we advised that we would be pleased to serve as its Canadian Representative for its Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (formerly Industry Canada) equipment certification application, that our rates were very reasonable and that we would be able to produce and deliver to the foreign company our letter confirming our appointment the very same day.
